Trauma Therapy Edinburgh

You don’t have to relive it to heal from it.

Trauma isn’t only about what happened to you. It’s about what your body and nervous system are still carrying. When something overwhelms us, whether a single shocking event or years of experiences that were too much, too fast or too soon, our survival responses switch on. If they never get the chance to complete, that survival energy stays locked in the body.

You might know this as feeling permanently on edge. Being easily overwhelmed. Numbness, or a sense of watching your own life from a distance. Reactions that feel out of proportion and out of your control. None of this means you’re broken. It means your system is still trying to protect you from something that’s already over.

How I work with trauma:

Many people put off trauma therapy because they dread having to retell their story in painful detail. That’s not how I work. As a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, I’ve spent years learning how to help the nervous system release what it holds: gently, gradually, and without you having to relive the worst of it.

We go at your pace, always. Much of our attention stays in the present moment, with what your body is experiencing right now, building your sense of safety and steadiness before we go anywhere near the hard material. Where trauma lives in your closest relationships, we can also work with the early attachment patterns that shaped how you learned to connect.

 Trauma I commonly work with:

• PTSD following accidents, assault or shock
• Complex and developmental trauma from childhood
• Relational trauma, including betrayal, abuse and attachment wounds
• Medical and surgical trauma
• The shock of sudden or traumatic loss

A safe pace, a safe space.

You don’t have to live in survival mode forever, and you don’t have to be ready for anything more than a conversation.

I offer a free initial consultation with no pressure attached, a chance to ask questions and get a feel for whether this approach is right for you. I see clients in person in Leith and Newington, Edinburgh, and online across the UK and around the world.
